Abstract in Gray

Arctic Abstract, 4 X 4 inches, in acrylic on wood, is part of a series of four paintings that will be displayed together. This is the smallest painting in the grouping, with the largest at 12 X 12 inches.

Hand Dyed Cotton

Fresh from the dye bath, two pieces of overdyed cotton. Above is a piece in golden brown shades with small spots of blue, making for a unique and rustic combination.
In a completely different palette of deep fuchsia and purple, this piece is youthful and fun with lots of warmth and energy.

More hand dyed fabric is drying as my stash of colorful cotton grows. What a wonderful abundance. :)

Abstract Painting

Abstract with Blue, 6 1/2 X 6 1/2 inches painted in acrylic on wood.

Hand Dyed Fabric

My hand dyed fabric is rinsed and dried. The above piece is navy blue and pale blue, and it came out with a beautiful design of lines and circles.
And the second is purple with sky blue. The design with wavy lines has a lovely oceanic feel. Both fabrics are natural cotton with a soft hand.
And, more hand dyeing is underway.

Fabric Dyeing

It's dyeing day, and fabric is soaking in colorful baths. Now it's time to be patient and allow the fabric the time it needs to fully absorb the dye and transform into new and beautiful textiles.

Stitched Bird Painting

Passerina is a mixed media painting combining hand embroidery and paint on canvas. At 8 X 10 inches, it's an interpretation of the beauty of colorful birds.

Stitched by hand, the bird head and body stand out, literally coming off of the painted canvas. The perle floss used for stitching has a beautiful luminosity making a gorgeous contrast with the matte finish of the paint.

Alive with color in turquoise, red, green, orange, yellow and various shades of blue, the painting is inspired by all the amazing varieties of bunting birds, in fact all of the passerine birds, each one more exquisite than the next.

Mixed Media Starfish

Starfish, 8 X 8 inches, is a Mixed Media painting on canvas.

The starfish, or sea star, is surrounded by color, shapes and movement reminiscent of the ocean. Golden yellow, olive green, terracotta orange and deep browns are interpretations of the shallow waters of my coastal home where several species of starfish thrive.

Medusa Jellyfish Art Quilt

Jellyfish Art Quilt is a mixed media piece combining text, music, paint, fabric, thread painting, sea shells and rocks.
It's 8 X 9 1/2 inches.

The jellyfish image, inspired by medusa jellyfish is free-motion stitched in black onto two pages, a vintage book page with the title: Starfishes, Sea Urchins and their Kin and sheet music with the direction, March-like.

The teal green fabric, sea shells and black rocks hint at the jellyfish's oceanic origins and the raw frayed edges of the quilt mimic the untamed nature of the sea.
