Spinning

Planning some hand spinning on my drop spindle using some beautiful dyed wool from New Zealand.

Strands of Silk

A beautiful skein of silk sari yarn just arrived from India. Luminous and multicolored, it will add depth & shine to several projects planned over the coming weeks.

Tapestry Wool

40 skeins of DMC tapestry wool. Chunky & soft, it's perfect for many kinds of needle arts.

Stitch Play

Playing with some creative stitch on a piece of my overdyded cotton.

No Rules Quilt in Progress

More stitching progress. No pattern, no rules, no straight lines. Plenty of raw unraveled edges.

Raw Edge Sewing

In the early stages of a raw edge art quilt in orange, pink, purple & yellow-green. Hand scrubbed to distort and fray the edges, the pieces are ready to assemble.

Hand Embroidery Art Quilt

Exuberant, approximately 16 X 16 inches, is an art quilt with a wonky shape and lots of color. Created on a base fabric that is hand painted, the piece has hand embroidery, touches of additional paint and is quilted by machine. It's an expansive celebration of texture, color and surface design, inspired by a stitching and quilting method developed by Fiber Artist Carol Ann Waugh.

Update:  Find this quilt and more in the book 350 Quilting Tips, Techniques and Trade Secrets: How to be Better at What You Do. This quilt can be found in the section "Hand Quilting with Other Stitches" (and another Art Quilt I made is featured in the section on Embellishments). So excited to be a contributor!

What a great book! It covers choosing equipment, preparing fabrics, color confidence, working with quilt patterns, cutting skills, patchwork techniques, appliqué and embellishments, binding and finishing and so much more. Great for quilters of all levels, it is an amazing all in one resource.

Portrait Art Quilt

Ivy is a portrait art quilt, 10 X 12 inches. It's created with free-motion embroidery and paint on cotton. I used a limited palette so the focus would be on the girl and the expression on her face. The back of the quilt is solid black with a sleeve for wall display.

The quilt is inspired by my sweet Gran who told me many stories about her days as a girl, which, when I do the math, was one hundred years ago. Amazing. Gone but not forgotten, she still inspires me.
