Floral and Bird Paintings

Two themes continue to emerge in the studio, abstract flowers and fun folk art birds.  Here's a roundup of some recent paintings:

Imaginary Garden Wildflower Paintings

Loads of abstract wildflower paintings in several sizes, each an imaginary garden in bloom. First up is one of the largest:

At 24 X 24 inches, Blossoms in the Wind features a soft sage green background and big bright blossoms and flower buds.

Abstract Floral Wildflower Paintings

Three new semi abstract paintings inspired by flowers, specifically wildflowers that grow untamed in both rural and urban settings:

Motet, is a mixed media piece, 6 X 8 inches, created primarily in acrylic. It has so much texture which adds a wonderful grunge-y feel. And, this painting became the jumping off point for a new delicate floral pattern available from as a scarf:

Serenity Garden has a muted, faded background punctuated by bold blossoms in various shades of purple. Click the image to see this pattern and scroll down to see it on tote bags, mugs, pillows and more.

Flowers in the Breeze Blossoms Painting

Gently bending in the breeze, these wildflowers are standing tall. Inspired by the beautiful poppy, this flower painting is created in acrylic on wood, a reminder of quiet moments and the gentleness of a breeze.

Hummingbird Miniature ACEO Nature Painting

A ruby-throated hummingbird tastes nectar in this sweet nature inspired miniature painting. Created in acrylic on heavy paper, this ACEO* is part of a continuing series of Art Cards featuring birds and cats. Painting in this small format is a never ending source of creative inspiration, and more are in the works.

Sunny Summer Garden in Bloom Acrylic Painting

A bit of sunshine-y cheer, Summer Garden, a painting in acrylic on wood, is a slightly abstract take on a bright sunny summer day and flowers in full bloom, bursting with color.

Daisy Garden Flower Painting

Created in acrylic on canvas, Daisy Garden is a painting celebrating flowers swaying in the breeze.

Bluebird Daisy Folk Art Painting

Created in acrylic on wood, Bluebird in the Daisies is 6 X 6 inches. The painting is loose and freeform adding a informal folk art feel - and free, flowing and instinctive is a delightful way to paint.

Sweet Peas Miniature ACEO Painting

Celebrating summer flowers, this miniature painting features a fresh bouquet of Sweet Peas in a purple vase. Created in acrylic, it is ACEO sized, perfect for collecting.

Sweet Pea Bouquet Micro Miniature Art Journal Painting

This floral painting is a mini, tiny, ultra small art journal page. Created in acrylic, Pink Sweet Peas is only 1.25 X 1.5 inches (3.18 X 3.8cm) in size. A still life of sorts, this painting in acrylic depicts a bouquet of freshly cut sweet pea flowers in a jar.

While this painting truly is a dollhouse micro miniature, it was a challenge for the eyes, taking small to a whole new level.

Freestyle Sewing Bird Applique Bag

This little bag was sewn using a few small bits of fabric and beautiful threads.

The bird, in a vintage floral fabric, was appliqued in black. The flower circles were created freestyle, sewing illustration style, for an informal handmade touch. Unifying the piece are the tic tac toe quilting lines in variegated thread, making this small bag a fun whimsical accessory.

In Full Bloom is a landscape in hand embroidery with needle felting and machine stitch.

Wildflowers in the Wind Acrylic Paintings

Two new wild flower paintings, both a mix of abstract and figurative. The first in pinks and lilacs is Windy Afternoon. It's a mini piece at 4 X 4 X 1/2 inches created in acrylic on wood.
